Frequently Asked Questions
How can a UWorld prep course help you succeed on the SAT exam?
UWorld provides thousands of SAT exam-like questions so that you will get used to the format, difficulty level, and types of questions you will see on the SAT exam. But, more importantly, you are provided with detailed explanations for every answer choice. These rationales provide step-by-step problem-solving guidance, explain why you may have made a mistake, and help you deepen your understanding so you answer correctly next time. In addition, our self-assessments and performance reporting help identify areas you need to work on the most, so you don’t waste your time.
Will this course cover everything necessary to get a top score on the SAT exam?
Yes! The 2,100+ questions that you have access to cover every subject and skill that you will encounter on the SAT exam. And it provides practice at different difficulty levels. Many students who practice using the more difficult questions feel over prepared on exam day. When they sit for their exam, the exam feels just like practice.
Is test prep for the SAT exam worth it?
Do you want to make the highest score you possibly can? If so, then yes, SAT test preparation is worth it. Not doing any prep and just hoping for the best won’t get you far. The only reliable way to improve your chances of a high score is to practice with a high-quality, realistic resource where you can learn from your mistakes and build confidence.
When should you begin prepping for the SAT exam?
The short answer is that you should begin preparing for the SAT exam as early as possible. But the exact amount of time depends on several factors that differ from person to person. You should consider your goal score and your beginning score to determine how much you need to improve. You also need to determine where you need to improve. Do you just need to raise your score in math, or do you need to improve in all areas? You also need to determine how much time per day or per week you have to dedicate to studying for the SAT. Usually, the more time you have before your test date, the less intense your prep needs to be. As a rule of thumb for most students, we highly recommend beginning your SAT prep at least three months before the exam, if not sooner.
How is UWorld different from other prep courses for the SAT exam?
While our SAT practice questions are certainly some of the most realistic out there, our real difference is our answer explanations. Talk to any of our users, read any of our testimonials, and you will hear over and over again how much of a difference our explanations made in student’s score improvement. Being able to learn from your mistakes, clear up misconceptions, and understand how to approach questions the right way is far more powerful than just answering questions alone.
Will UWorld help me improve my SAT Math score?
Yes! The SAT Math section is statistically the easiest to improve if you focus on learning concepts and increasing your speed. UWorld provides several tools to help you improve your SAT Math score. We provide an equations reference sheet, a built-in calculator, and a hint function to assist you in answering SAT math problems. Our built in timer lets you know how you are doing on time, so you can work on increasing your speed. Additionally, our explanations provide clear rationales for every answer choice, helping you clear up misconceptions. Many questions also come with an alternative method to solving the problem to build understanding. If you take our SAT practice test, you will be given information on the concepts you need to work on the most so you can focus on exactly what will improve your score the most.
Does UWorld offer SAT Practice Tests?
Our 90, 180, and 360 day subscriptions include self-assessments that are full-length SAT practice tests so you can mimic the exam experience. The self-assessments come with a score predictor that tells you what you could expect to make on the actual exam and breaks down each subject area so you know the concepts you need to work on the most to improve your score.
Will UWorld help prepare me for the new digital SAT exam in 2024?
The best way to prepare for a digital SAT exam is to practice with digital SAT prep. And, because our course is all online, we are able to make changes to the course quickly to reflect the most recent SAT exam format and questions. We are making changes to our SAT prep to mimic what students will experience and be tested on when the SAT goes digital in 2024.
What is a good SAT score?
Once you take the SAT exam, you can receive a total score of 400 up to 1600. While there is no definition of a “good” score, you can see where you rank compared to how others scored. If you score a 1050, that is a good – or average – score. However, at least a 1250 is what most competitive students aim for and would put you in the 80th percentile or above. If you score a 1350, then you are in the 90th percentile. And, you are in the 99th percentile if you have a SAT score of 1550 or above.
Can I use UWorld’s online prep for the SAT exam and Khan Academy together?
Absolutely! While we created our prep courses to offer everything you need to be successful, a lot of students combine SAT resources based on what helps them the most. Since Khan Academy SAT prep is free to use, why not add it to your prep plan? We have found that Khan Academy is most beneficial for beginner students because of the video lessons that help with foundational understanding of concepts. However, when you are ready to really improve your performance, UWorld’s detailed explanations are the gold-standard. We consistently get feedback that our explanations are the best out there, and are the number one factor in improving SAT score.
How is UWorld’s SAT prep different from Khan Academy’s SAT preparation?
Khan Academy SAT prep is primarily video lessons and related questions. Khan does offer question explanations, but they are very simple. UWorld takes answer explanations much further. Similar to Khan Academy, UWorld offers thousands of SAT-like questions that mimic the real exam. However, UWorld’s active learning methodology focuses on learning from detailed answer explanations that offer thorough information on the correct answer as well as feedback on the incorrect answer choices that help you understand your mistakes. The answer explanations include hyperlinks with definitions of terms, background information, formulas, and vivid illustrations to help build understanding and retention of information.
How can I best use Khan Academy SAT prep with UWorld’s preparation for the SAT?
There are many ways you can use UWorld and Khan Academy together to prepare for the SAT exam. We have three different suggestions for combining the two together to maximize your prep.
- Practice using UWorld SAT content and complete questions over concepts you want to improve on. When you answer a question incorrectly, carefully go through the explanation and correct your misconception. If you are still totally lost, do a deep dive by watching a Khan Academy video for foundational background. Once you feel good about the concept, test that knowledge by completing additional UWorld questions on that concept.
- Take an official released SAT test on Khan Academy and determine your current score to pinpoint what you specifically need to improve. Based on the results, create UWorld SAT practice tests, answer those
questions, and read through the explanations to gain the necessary skills to improve. - Complete all of the UWorld questions first since UWorld offers clear, concise, and complete explanations. After you learn content with UWorld, start drilling yourself using Khan Academy. Since Khan has limited explanations you want to use that second.
