SAT Test Registration

There are both offline and online registration options for the SAT test. Let’s learn a bit about the two ways:

  • Online through the College Board's website. This is the most convenient way to register for the SAT. All you have to do is decide when and where you will take the test, and then register online.
  • Offline via mail through the Student Registration Booklet form. If you need to register on paper, simply contact your school counselor for a copy of the booklet.
“Make sure the details you provide, such as your complete name or residence, match exactly what is on the photo identification you present as verification.”
Note: It is important to remember the SAT registration deadlines so that you do not have to pay more for late registration.

How to register for the SAT online?

The official College Board website is where you may complete the new SAT registration process. Before registering, make sure you have a photo and a form for payment ready. The registration process takes about 30 minutes to complete. The website saves your registration process if you leave it incomplete midway, so that you can always come back and finish it later. To make it easier for you, we have put together a step-by-step guide on how to complete the 2023 SAT registration process:

1. Check Your Calendar

Ask your guidance counselor, or go online yourself, to find out when the SAT is being offered. Pick a day that is good for you, but make sure you leave yourself plenty of time to prep for the test.

2. Set Up Your Account

To register for the SAT, you'll need to set up an account on the College Board® website. Make sure you provide your full legal name as shown on your identification.

3. Fill Out the Questionnaire

This is a timely process (30-40 minutes) but a very important one, so get comfortable. It is during this step that you will enter the test date you chose and the location where you'd like to take your test.

4. Upload Your Photo

The College Board requires you to upload a photo of yourself when you register. The photo needs to show your head and shoulders with your entire face clearly visible and square to the camera.

5. Pay Your Fees

There is a fee you are required to pay to complete the registration process. If you miss the registration deadline, which is a month before your test date, you will be charged an additional late fee.

How to register for the SAT by mail?

If you choose to register by mail, ask your school counselor for a Student Registration Booklet for the SAT. The booklet will come with a registration form and a return envelope. Follow the steps below to register for the SAT by mail:

  • To fill out the mail registration form, you will need to know your school code and your test center code. You can get these codes from your school counselor or the College Board website.
  • Fill out the form with all the required information marked in red.
  • You will also need to submit a photo to be examined alongside your photo I.D. when you check in on testing day.
  • Once the form is complete, place the payment and the form in the return envelope, which is addressed to the SAT.
  • U.S. mail registration must be postmarked by the U.S. deadline and International registrations must be received before the deadline. The deadline expires at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time, U.S.

How to reschedule the SAT?

The rescheduling process includes the following steps for the SAT test:

  • Visit the College Board website.
  • Go to MY SAT account, where you will find your registered test details.
  • Reschedule the test by clicking on “change registration”. You will be able to select the new test date and test center, and you will be prompted to pay the reschedule fee, which is $28 per reschedule.
  • Once your rescheduling process is completed, you will receive a confirmation shortly on your registered email address. You will also find a new entry ticket with your revised test date along with the confirmation email.
